Description bfx81 2009-07-09 23:59:41 UTC
After launching dia as usually i didn't found any options to select the new UI, and i didn't found documentation about the command line option (sorry, maybe it's because it's quite late here :p).

A tip in the releases notes can be useful, but maybe an option in the preferences window can be better.

Tnx (for the great work with Dia) and in advance (for my request) ;-)

patch to implement the feature

I made a patch against the GIT version that add the option to the preferences dialog. It against git c039190bd64a84e85b969614bf6256a179f08cca

I'm not sure it's coded the right way, but it does work.

This option was intentionally removed from the user interface by:

2009-04-13 Hans Breuer <hans@breuer.org>

* app/preferences.[ch] :removed "Integrated UI" option here ... (together with the annoying change-needs-restart message) * app/app_procs.c : ... and made it a start-up option, aka. command line switch. If the UI type some day can be switch at runtime the prefernce setting may be added again.

I just wasted 45 minutes with googling on how to enable this view after I saw it on screenshots. I looked through the preferences dialog several times, I looked through the FAQ, the website, the Wikipedia entry... it isn't mentioned anywhere. I even suspected that this would only work on Windows or was dropped completely.

Sorry, but making this a _command line option_ was the most non-intuitive thing you could do. Please just bring back the option to the preference dialog - nobody will have a problem with having to restart the program to toggle it.
Comment 4 Hans Breuer 2010-10-11 18:31:58 UTC
Complaining wont help. The one nobody who had a problem with the restart option was me - as outlined above.
Comment 5 Urmas 2011-04-01 05:24:56 UTC
That's not even funny. Put it back to Preferences where it should be. Of course command line switch can remain.
Comment 6 Hans Breuer 2011-04-01 07:23:21 UTC
So let me rephrase it: the decision was made by the maintainer of Dia for maintenance reasons. I'm still convinced it was the right decision and just complaining will not change that.
If you desperately want the GUI option back, make the switch work without restart. The usual response: pactches accepted.
If you are frustated about lack of documentation regarding this, please help improving that. Dia is a volunteer's project and the main website http://live.gnome.org/Dia is a wiki changeable by everyone.
