Description mvilas 2009-06-30 19:50:11 UTC
Some FTP servers disconnect clients when no activity occurs in a given lapse of time. This could be mitigated by issuing do-nothing commands every once in a while to keep the connection alive.

This should be configurable by the user, where the lapse between keepalive commands can be controlled. The user should also be capable of disabling the feature entirely.

Another possibility would be to automatically reconnect to servers when the connection is dropped. This should also be an option.

gftp is not under active development anymore and has not seen code changes for many years. Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gftp/commits/master
The maintainer states that "I would like to hand this project off to someone compotent" on https://www.gftp.org/

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is deprecated) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
