Description Charles 2009-06-29 20:01:41 UTC
Hello :-)

How about adding a command line option to stop the zenity dialog grabbing focus?

This would be useful when the programmer wants to display a dialog to the user while allowing the user to continue working in the current window until they are ready to interact with the dialog.

Best

Charles

I'm sorry, I didn't understand very well what you mean.
Zenity was made to be used, when you want to show to the user some dialog, what's the point to zenity don't be the window focus? If that's happen, probably the user may forgot to check the zenity window (mainly now on gnome 3).
I don't think that's the point, so please give me a user case.

One use case is a copy typist looking at the original text, not the screen, when Zenity is used to display a reminder. In that case it would be useful if the user's keystrokes continued to be directed to the text entry program after the Zenity window was displayed. Text entry would then continue uninterrupted and the information displayed by Zenity would be available when the user next looked at the screen.

I got it. Would you like to write a patch for this? I think it's usefull only for information/error/question/warning dialogs.
Comment 4 André Klapper 2021-05-25 17:45:39 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/zenity/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
