In trunk, if I press "[", tga files do not rotate. 

png, tiff, and jpeg files are OK.

This isn't a big problem itself (who uses tga?), but it could be a symptom of bigger problems.

ext branch now gives a meaningful error message (indicating that gdk-pixbuf does not support tga saving).
