Description Doug Holton 2009-06-25 15:45:29 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I often drag urls into folders to create URL shortcuts for later viewing.

Once you drag more than a certain number though and the nautilus file window gets filled up, you can't drag anymore into the window because there is no empty space on which to drop the url.

If you drop on top of another url shortcut, it is like gnome/nautilus treats url shortcuts as broken folders or application icons instead of regular files. You get an error "drag and drop is not supported".

I would request either that url shortcuts are marked like regular files (you can drop on top of plain text files and other ordinary files just fine), OR else redesign the nautilus list view such that there is some empty space in between items or in some separate area in which you can drop files.

Also, this is not exactly the same issue, but I virtually always have to hold down the control and shift key with my left hand WHILE dragging a URL nowadays, because otherwise nautilus hesitates and locks up sometimes for up to a minute before creating a url shortcut.

Steps to reproduce:
See the original bug report from 2 years ago for steps on reproducing plus a video showing the problem.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/152975

Actual results:
Error message: drag and drop is not supported

Expected results:
Successful drop of url, resulting in the creating of a url shortcut.

Does this happen every time?
Yes
