Description Praveen Thirukonda 2009-06-22 15:54:34 UTC
Please describe the problem:
As compared to say rhythmbox, banshee seems to fetch the cover art AND meta data of much fewer songs.

So i suggest more sources for this information should be added.

PS: Could you add sources where there is song information for songs other english language eg hindi songs.

Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Does this happen every time?

I guess this is the main issue? It's a known bug, marking as a duplicate. Feel free to open another one if you have other issues.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 520516 ***

this big is not a dup of 520516.

Here the problem is that which ever source site banshee is using as a database for fetching cover art and meta data is not adequate enough and even rythmbox has a more exhaustive database.

And you have misinterpreted the PS part of the bug report.
Here i say that if the song is a hindi song but the text is actually in english like for eg. hum tum. Then the source database has very few ( but still has some) entries for bollywood songs.

And i dont know about the rest of the world but in india most people use this method of using ASCII but having hindi names.

A few examples would be helpful, e.g. the metadata in your files (album, artist, etc), link to MusicBrainz page if it exists, link to Last.fm page if it exists.

Please do it for a few albums that don't have cover art in your Banshee library.

album name Dil chahta hai

http://musicbrainz.org/show/release/?releaseid=431133

Artist Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy

cover art picture shown on music brainz page. but not in banshee.

Also to note that songs from this album have cover art in rhythmbox but not in banshee.

So a.current bansheealbum art fetching has problems.
b.More sources of such metadata, album art should be added eg amazon, wikipedia, etc

Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect
reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project
to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the
responsibility for active development again.
