GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 586307
Allow rename notebooks
Last modified: 2009-06-18 23:17:41 UTC
I would like a way to rename notebooks. Thanks!
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 435734 ***
Hey, thanks for finding the duplicate. It seems that bugzilla.gnome.org's search service did not help me. I filed my bug because I found that, http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?query=tomboy+rename+notebook gives: "Zarro Boogs found", despite the existence of the Tomboy bug: Bug 503557 – Rename notebook

You would think that this bug would come up in a search for "rename notebook", but it does not. Oh well. :-) > despite the existence of the Tomboy bug: Bug 503557 – Rename notebook That bug, being a duplicate of this one, is considered closed, and thus will not appear in search results.
Whoops, got confused about which bug I was commenting on. The *open* bug uses the word "renaming" instead of "rename", so the search result makes sense.
(Sorry, I don't know where to report a bug for bugzilla.gnome.org) Yeah, but... * Searching for "Notebook renaming" returns the _wrong bug_ ( http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?query=Notebook+renaming ). And "allow for Notebook renaming" returns "Zarro Boogs found" ( http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?query=allow+for+Notebook+renaming ). * Modern search engine should handle different word forms intelligently (when I write "rename", I also mean "renaming", "renames", etc.). * For precisely this duplicate bug situation, the duplicate bugs should be searched as well and, if they match, then their "root" bug should be displayed, right? It is clear that the root bug name/desc did not match my own. And it would make sense to take advantage of (all) the names/descs in the dupes that were reported that may very well match my own. E.g. what if the root bug's name is simply terrible or misleading and is never changed? Indeed, as a feature for Bugzilla, it might even make sense to list in the search results some of the "also known as" names. For example, a single result in the search results list could look like: 435734 enh Nor All Tomboy NEW allow for Notebook renaming Also titled: Rename notebook Allow renaming notebooks Allow rename notebooks Again, sorry for posting about Bugzilla in this bug...
There is actually a bugzilla.gnome.org product on bugzilla.gnome.org. Would recommend filing a new bug for that product, and copying this comment into it. They'll know whether it should be an upstream bugzilla bug, or if it's specific to bugzilla.gnome.org. I agree with everything you're saying. :-)
