As with the bug on which this is based, the Non-spatial, aka Browser, Nautilus also does not retain the selection of items when you move back and forth in the history.  It should. 

Bug #360516 Comment #1 ( http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360516#c1 ) actually applies to Browser Nautilus as well.
