The goal of the workspace view is to identify and select windows.  Anything that does not facilitate that should be minimized.  I think we should dim and/or blur out the background (desktop wallpaper and icons) in this mode.

I think it's a nice idea. Looking at screenshots and screencasts, the overwhelming backgrounds being repeated for all workspaces seemed a bit overstimulating to me. If dimmming+blurring is not expensive, I'd vote for that.
