Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2009-05-20 00:01:55 UTC
This is a spin-off bug from bug 568811, in which David Price said:

---------------------
I agree with Will--I think it is related to autocompletion. when I was playing
with this a few days ago, I would occasionally hear fragments from the
autocompletion list. Also, when I pressed the down arrow to get into the
autocompletion list, then escape to return to the location edit box, I would
get speech output events without delay.

I'll attach a debug log showing the behavior.

Debug log showing impact of autocompletion list on speech

Using Firefox (Minefield) 3.2a1pre.
Log starts with firefox open. Screen saver kicks in because I got a phone call
as the log started. Open new tab and start typing a URL that I know is in the
autocompletion list. After typing enough to generate the correct autocomplete,
press the down arrow, followed by the escape key. Press keypad-Enter to
determine what I have in the edit box, then complete the URL with speech.

---------------------

Looking at David's debug.out, it seems that the autocomplete list is issuing quite a few events which could be impacting what Orca does and/or does not say.

For now I'm targeting this for FUTURE to distinguish it from the target of "---".

(3.0 Planning Spam-o-rama. Sorry!)

hum, speech seems to work reasonably for autocomplete in ff4, but we do seem to get a bunch of events from ff, I'm not sure how reasonable they all are. I'm also not really sure what we want to fix here.

I'm not sure what we want to fix either. And this is really old. So much has changed in both the applications and the libraries. So I'm closing as obsolete. Let's open new bugs for current products.
