GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 582681
Country name locations: Weather: missing Falconara (Ancona), Italy
Last modified: 2017-12-12 14:00:13 UTC
In setting the location for Ubuntu from the user profile area (upper R corner area) I am unable to find the following Italian town: Falconara (Ancona); see libgweather and Locations.xml data.to confirm this issue. Note The reason I am making this request is as follows: - Falconara is a weather center for the region Marche (Italy) located on the Adriatic coast, central Italy. - Falconara has an international airport and therefore a hub for weather information and data. - Two other towns are in the list (Rimini to the north and Pescara to the south) but no city reference for the central zone. Expected The town - Falconara (Ancona) Italy - should be listed as one of the Italian towns regarding location and weather information.
This is already present, as "Molino di Ancona". I am not sure what "Molino di" means, but from looking at Wikipedia, it does seem correct to list the city as Ancona (population 101,210) rather than Falconara (population 27,962).
Thanks you for the feedback. You are correct. Molino di Ancona points to the airport of Falconara. Commonly in Italy we specify Falconara as the reference point and not Molino di Ancona. I am not sure if it is possible to add in parenthesis (Falconara) to make it clearer. This is a detail request. Overall I am glad that there is the indication as stated in the bug. Many thanks and let me know.
hi, i've got similar problem too : i'm in italy but i cant find my city : Padova, Italy. Expected The town - Padova, Italy - should be listed as one of the Italian towns regarding location and weather information.
(re: Padova, IT): Thanks for taking the time to make the request. The current implementation requires METAR station codes in order to provide weather conditions (see http://www.weather.gov/tg/siteloc.shtml). While Padova is listed, it doesn't have the four-character code that we'd need. The plan is to replace the Locations.xml.in file with a more dynamic mechanism (bug #530178) for Gnome 3.0, so this should be fixed as part of that effort.

Fixed by somebody knowledgeable in Italian geography: commit d31d486eba89b39959a32ef2bc0ded588c455b26 Author: Giovanni Campagna <gcampagna@src.gnome.org> Date: Mon Aug 27 15:54:13 2012 +0200 Fix the coordinates of two Italian cities Fix the coordinates of Bologna and Ancona. Also, fix the city name. Based on a patch Guido Trentalancia <guido@trentalancia.com> https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682730 Padova doesn't have its own airport, but Venice, Verona and Bologna airports are all there, so online lookup will work.
