I got a similar crash in 2.28.0. Status bar was showing 'formatting message'. Even i changed the folder and selected different message, message preview was still showing old message so i quit evolution and bug-buddy window popped up.

I believe that this is related to bug #557613 and fixes used there fix also this bug, thus I'm marking this one as a duplicate. Please feel free to reopen, if you see the same on 2.30.0+. Thanks.
