A number of users have reported on the Ubuntu bug that renaming /etc/samba/smb.conf resolves the crash and they are able to authenticate successfully. I can confirm that renaming the file prevents the crash from occurring, but I personally am still not able to authenticate successfully. I get an error dialog with the text "Authentication failed.", despite the audit log on the Exchange server indicating that the user account was successfully logged on.
