Description Alexander E. Patrakov 2009-05-11 07:44:30 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Nautilus (correctly) ignores big gif and jpg files, but makes thumbnails from big png files, and eats huge amounts of memory while doing so. Here "big" refers to the image area, not file size.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a 30000x30000 all-black 8-bit grayscale png image in GIMP (yes, it takes time). Save it.
2. With Nautilus, navigate to the folder where you saved the file.

Actual results:
Nautilus goes to swap. After 30 minutes, a thumbnail appears.

Expected results:
No thumbnail. Just a generic "image" icon that Nautilus is able to show for big gifs and jpegs.

Does this happen every time?
Yes
