GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 581838
gdk-pixbuf cannot open Vista's PNG-compressed .ico files
Last modified: 2014-10-22 16:52:41 UTC
Please describe the problem: With the release of Vista, Microsoft added a new type of images to the .ico file. According to wikipedia, these contain a 256x256 image that has been compressed using PNG. No GNOME application can currently open these icons, and I think it is glib that handles images for GNOME/GTK, so I'm filing the bug here. Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
We'd probably need a couple of example images.
Created attachment 134347 [details] thinlinc.ico Here is one icon. It's generated using IcoFX[1]. I'm afraid I don't have any generated by some other program available right now. [1] http://icofx.ro/
Btw, in case Microsoft extends the format in the future, it would be nice if the parser skipped entries it failed to parse instead of returning an error to the caller.
Still valid in 2.19.x branch
