Small images (like 16x16 px) are scaled up in Nautilus in the thumbnails (ie. to 96x96 px). That looks very ugly. This is a regression from Nautilus 2.24. Small images should never be scaled up (only large images scaled down). See attached screenshot.

If I understand it correctly, this bug is therefore solved as a duplicate of #585186. (Well, more correctly #585186 is a duplicate of my bug report, but that doesn't matter.)
