I think the video stuff should probably default to off, and appear when a video stream turns up.

Yeah, it's saner and reduces the UI (and saves CPU usage).

I close this bug as dup of bug #580778. It is not really a dup but the request is in contradiction, so let's discuss the best solution on the other bug :)
