GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 579333
When toggling tool windows with tab they appear with shift
Last modified: 2011-01-10 14:08:26 UTC
Please describe the problem: Toggling tooltip windows with tab shifts them down and right. Steps to reproduce: 1. Set window manager focus to main window of GIMP (window containing image) 2. Press tab - tool windows disappear 3. Press tab again - tool windows appear Actual results: Tool windows appear, but their positions differ from as was in step 1. Expected results: Tool windows are expected to be in the same position as was before hiding and showing again. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Gimp 2.6.6 GTK 2.16.1 metacity 2.25.144

I can't reproduce this on Windows.
> I can't reproduce this on Windows. Yes, tried now on Windows, not reproduceable.
I could not reproduce this in a Gimp 2.6 installation on a Fedora box running Gnome. I also tried it in Gimp 2.7 (git master) on a Gentoo box running Xfce4, and this bug did not show up. Are you using Metacity WM by itself (no Gnome?) I guess Gnome uses Metacity, but I suppose there might be some difference when running the WM without the desktop environment. (Pure speculation on my part...) Might help if you could try this with one or two other WMs/DEs on your computer (e.g., Fluxbox, KDE) and then report back the results.
I use gimp 2.6.6 on Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 (PPC emac), and I cannot reproduce this bug.
I can confirm this (on a vanilla install of Ubuntu 8.10, Gimp 2.6 (don't know what exact version)). The standard Gnome/Metacity setup seems to successfully trigger this bug (ie. if you do the install, then bootup, and before doing anything else, run GIMP and hit TAB a few times, you will see the bug in action. (maybe Ubuntu's default configuration of Metacity is unusual?) BTW, this bugzilla user account represents the same person as the neota@softhome.net account.
Maybe this should be reported to Ubuntu? But try it with their current 9.10 release first.
Does this still happen on newer ubuntu versions using metacity?
