GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 578842
Keyboard shortcut
Last modified: 2012-07-13 21:31:10 UTC
Make the key between the win logo and the control key, act as a right click in Gparted. This key always acts as a right click in virtually every OS and program. It currently has no function in Gparted.

Which key did you mean ? There are so many keyboard layouts in the world... the description "the key between the win logo and the control key" is vague... Here in my Acer laptop, it's "Fn"... On my another laptop IBM X61, there is no key between the win logo key and the control key. They are next to each other.
Changing this over to the livecd component as this seems the appropriate place. :-) Steven, you make a good point about which key is intended. Fujitsu "USA" keyboard: On the left hand side there is no key between the Ctrl and Windows Logo keys. On the right hand side there is a key between the Windows Logo key and the Ctrl key. This key has a picture of a rectangular drop down list with a mouse arrow pointer superimposed on top. Acer Aspire One Laptop keyboard: On the LHS, there is a Fn key between the Ctrl and Windows Logo Keys. On the RHS, there is no Windows Logo key but there is an Alt Car key. Between this Alt Car key and the Ctrl key is a key similar to the one described above. E.g., the key has a picture of a rectangular drop down list with a mouse arrow pointer superimposed on top.
I thought the sentence "This key always acts as a right click in virtually every OS and program" was enough for you to comprehend which key I was talking about but I was probably making a mistake. :) The key that has a picture of a rectangular drop down list with a mouse arrow pointer superimposed on top, is the one I was talking about.
ali, GParted Live 0.12.0-2 uses the Fluxbox window manager. Fluxbox window manager http://fluxbox.org/ Can you research and then describe how to enable the key functionality that you are requesting?
ali, can you please respond to comment#5 ?
Here is some information I found in regard to the aforementioned request. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=617812 The code under the section "-Custom menus" is about that key.
ali, are you suggesting the following two line addition to the ~/.fluxbox/keys file? # Menu key to display root menu menu :RootMenu You can test this in a GParted Live session by making the change to the file, and then right clicking on the desktop and selecting "fluxbox menu --> Restart".
Oops, my mistake. It would appear that the syntax for the ~/.fluxbox/keys file is case sensitive. Hence the entry to add should have a capital "M" for the word Menu. # Menu key to display root menu Menu :RootMenu You can test this in a GParted Live session by making the change to the file, and then right clicking on the desktop and selecting "fluxbox menu --> Restart".
I attempted performing the reqested test, however I encountered a problem in the last step. Right clicking on the desktop does not bring any context menu by default. This is the case with both Xorg and Vesa.
Thanks to Steven Shiau, the change to enable the menu key has been added to gparted-live-0.13.0-beta1.2.iso. I have tested using the default en-us keyboard and the menu key (between Alt, Windows Logo, and Ctrl on the right hand side of keyboard) brings up the Fluxbox Root Menu. Using a mouse and right clicking on the desktop also brings up the Fluxbox Root Menu. Ali, would you be able to test with the newest testing release? gparted-live-0.13.0-beta1.3.iso Also, what keyboard are you using and selecting when booting GParted Live?
The enhancements to address this bug report have been included in GParted Live 0.13.0-1 released on July 13, 2012.
Type in comment 10: Haha, I had completely forgotten that this bug is for Gparted Live itself and I instead performed the test with Parted Magic OS which includes the Gparted program. That explains the reason for comment 10. I will now perform the test as requested, using the correct Live OS. If it works I won't add another comment to this bug. By the way, the keyboard I am using is a standard US.
