GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 578125
No way to list recent chats
Last modified: 2018-05-22 13:24:54 UTC
I just accidentally closed a conversation window, and don't know who it was. (It's Monday.) There's no easy way to see recent (or recently-closed) conversations. I can go into the log viewer and look through each account in turn, but... no. I'd like a list of recent conversations. Perhaps this could be a menu similar to Firefox's History -> Recently Closed Tabs. Perhaps it could be a mode in the log viewer (or maybe the contact list!) ordering your contacts by most recent activity.
“Undo close tab” solves the data loss part of this. I think it'd be nice if the menu item said “Reopen conversation with Jonny”, or maybe “Reopen conversation with:” → [“Jonny”, “Steve Jobs”, “Others...”] with the latter option opening a conversation history view in the log viewer or something. Currently Ctrl-Shift-T reopens the last tab if pressed in the contact list, as an undocumented easter egg. Maybe the same submenu could appear in the Chat menu?
Souds like a good idea to me. Go for it!
Another option might be to make the main window (currently the buddy list) have a way to show a timeline/history of conversations. WebOS does something like this. (also in the middle of a search): http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Aw1hEegM1OU/S2ne5VgJ5mI/AAAAAAAAAk0/RW7KLtYebnw/s1600-h/messaging_2010-03-02_143358.png
The History window part of this bug is fixed now. You can click Anybody & Anything (or Chats), and you'll see a list of dates. The top one will be the last date in which you had a conversation. Moving to Chat for the "Recently closed tabs" part of the bug.
