We can't accept the translation copyrighted by Canonical. If author will pass copyright to Free Software Foundation we'll accept it.

Additionaly, this translation has many issues, like any Ubuntu translation.

Nickolay,

What do you mean with "we", Gnome Translation Project or the Russian team? Other teams aren't finding an issue here.

Additionally, correct me if i'm wrong, because the translation has the same license as the project (GPL), you can add that additional copyright notice.

Other teams aren't finding an issue here.

I think it's the issue for the whole project but I can't say as authority here:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2006-September/msg00211.html

For Russian translation I can be the authority person and we don't accept translations not copyrighted to FSF.

Just to let you understand the quality of this translation let me note that the second entry "Character coding" is transliterated as "temper of coding scheme" just because "характер" sounds similar to "character" not as "encoding of symbols".

"Вы должны запустить из памяти. Пожалуйста, закройте другие программы и "
"попробуйте опять."

"You have run out of memory" is translated as "You must run from memory".

Repair instead of replace. Repair all instead of replace all. I hope you won't ask to import Ubuntu translations any more.
Comment 8 Pedro Castro 2009-03-29 00:36:10 UTC
As you may understand, non-Russian speakers like me are not able to distinguish a good Russian translation from a bad one. Hence the need for reviewing, which you are thankfully doing, even though from your comments it seems like it was a terrible idea to even consider using these translations. I don't think this is general to Launchpad, though, as some translations have been accepted for other languages.

Still, it's good to be able to count with your insight, so if you feel this translation isn't usable then that's it, no problem.
Comment 9 Nickolay V. Shmyrev 2009-03-29 01:09:21 UTC
Anyhow, I've committed the translation already, so this bug is closed

About Launchpad copyright and quality, I don't share your optimizm in this area. There are too many complains about translation quality in Ubuntu and the lack of cooperation one can't deny them.
