GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 576990
Improve import of Lotus .wk4 files
Last modified: 2015-01-01 18:40:46 UTC
Another file in this format opens without problems. I get the following message: GLib-ERROR **: gmem.c:136: failed to allocate 16248 bytes aborting I can provide the file in question if you email me at miborogovac@bostonmutual.com
I tried to attach the file that makes gnumeric crash but it is too big (1.21MB)
Please compress it using whatever compression you have. "zip" would be good. Alternatively, please temporarily put it somewhere and put the URL here. (The final alternative would be email, but that is going to require compression too.)
Mirza, if any of the options Morten mentions don't work for you, you can also e-mail it to me at aguelzow-at-pyrshep.ca and I can temporarily giveit an URL.
Created attachment 131735 [details] sample file (zipped)
This file opens for me but has lots of WARNINGS in the console.
The file opens for me too (in 1.9.5). I fixed some error message, though. There are lots and lots of stuff in that file that we do not understand and do not have documentation for. How was this file generated? Realistically there is not much hope that we will be able to read the parts we are now missing, unless some very clear documentation shows up.
Hi all. Sorry for the slow reply. I am trying to open a work file but my email for bugzilla is a private email so I am reluctant to check it too often. I am using Gnumeric 1.9.1 on windows XP. File was created with Lotus and it was not created by me. I do not have lotus so I am using gnumeric to view the file. If there is anything else that I can do to help discover the bug, I would be glad to help.
Since we don't see a crash but this basically is coming down to improving the import of Lotus .wk4 files, I am retitling.
When I try to open a .wk4 file with Gnumeric 1.10.15 under Fedora 14 I get this error message: Unsupported file format. Do I need an optional plugin or library to make Gnumeric recognize .wk4 files? Seems to work fine with older Lotus 123 files.
@Steven, If you can read older Lotus 123 files then the lotus plugin should be loaded. Would you be able to provide one of those new unloadable LOTUS 123 files for testing?
I'll try to come up with a sample. Problem is the spreadsheets have confidential data and we no longer have access to Lotus/IBM Smartsuite, so I can't open them at all right now. If I can come up with one that contains non-critical data that shows the problem, I'll attach here.
R. Steven, ping, do you have any update for the bug ?
Sorry, I was not able to find or create a spreadsheet that exhibits this problem and that our org would allow me to release.
Andreas, shall we keep the bug open or close it ? R. Steven won't be able to provide sample spreadsheet.
Without a ample file it will be virtually impossible to address this issue.
The wk4 situation has been somewhat improved now.
