Description Steve Holmes 2009-03-26 02:55:59 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When you go to the following link, You can start reading the page OK but further down, Orca seems to stop. At that point, I can alt tab to other processes and regain speech but as soon as I come back to this Firefox 3 window, speech seems to finishup but keyboard functionality is lost. The only way to get FF back to being usable again was to get to the other window (in my case, a terminal shell) and quit Orca. Then without speech I could alt tab back to FF and shut it down.
Goto <a href="http://www.radiogodaddy.com/gdshop/live/default.asp?isc=GLE032509&email=steve.holmes88%40gmail.co">pasted link from an email</a>

Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Just click the link to the godaddy.com page above and scroll down through the page with Orca navigation keys like down-arrow or tab.

Actual results:
It works for a while but further down in the text, All seems to quit. I can still alt-tab around to other processes but Firefox seems to be hung or something. If I quit Orca from another window, I can come back into Firefox and exit the program and then restart Orca.

Expected results:
I should be able to get through this whole document without interruptions of speech and be able to process the links on this page.

Does this happen every time?
It seems to. I tried it 3 or 4 times with same results.

Other information:
I seem to have frequent problems with different godaddy pages. for anything important, I find myself having to boot into MS Windows and use internet explorer to work these pages using Window-Eyes.

I'm not sure about the link given in the original report; here's another attempt to paste it in. http://www.radiogodaddy.com/gdshop/live/default.asp?isc=GLE032509&email=steve.holmes88%40gmail.com
I'm trying to include this from an e-mail that was sent to me.

Hi Steve.

Thanks so much for taking the time to file this report. Any chance you could attach a full debug.out (see http://live.gnome.org/Orca/Debugging)? Thanks in advance!

I'm officially marking this bug as NEEDINFO now.

Steve, your bug reports have always been awesome in their detail. Thank you so much! And please continue doing what you do!

That said.... The other day when I asked for a debug.out it was admittedly a time-saving measure. In other words, if we have debug output to examine, we can often identify the source of the bug that much faster -- and hence fix it that much faster. Failing the provision of a debug.out, in many cases we can ultimately figure out the circumstances needed to reproduce the bug ourselves. Alas, I've tried off and on for the past couple of hours on a couple of different machines. :-( I can't make the hang occur.

If you provide us with a debug.out, we can look not only at the keypresses and content, but at things like line length prior to the bug manifestation. For instance, maybe I need to resize my window "just so" to make the bug happen. (I can tell this by comparing my debug.out with yours and resizing my window and/or changing my fonts until our lines match.)

Thanks again for your help!

Steve wrote me privately to let me know that he's been a bit swamped lately but will provide the requested debug output when things settle down. Believe me I know all about being swamped.... :-) So no worries.

However, for the purpose of planning, I'm retargetting this bug for the 2.26.2 release as Monday is the 2.26.1 release.

Given that tomorrow is the 2.26.2 release, and that I still need more info, I am retargeting this for 2.26.3.

Since the original filing of this bug, I had to re-install my Linux distribution and ended up using Slackware with Dropline-Gnome. Since the rebuild of my system, I get a different symptom. If I use the above link or similar links when emailed to me, the page loads fine but the embedded flash program begins to play and I cannot stop it. I have to either change pages or shut Firefox down to stop the audio program. That is probably not an Orca bug but then again, I can't find a way to control the playback of the audio. But other than the audio playback, the page seems to load and Orca can read the contents without a performance hit.

So I cannot currently reproduce the originally reported problem.

Given that you cannot reproduce the problem, I'm going to close out this bug.

As for the audio player, I just took a look. The player did not automatically start up for me. However, the player controls do not seem to be keyboard accessible; the only way I can figure out to interact with them to use the mouse. Perhaps the godaddy.com folks could be persuaded to use a more accessible player?
