I suggest, that the places-bar should be divided into more sections: "Favorites", "Devices" and "Network". To see this in action, take a look on screenshots of OS X's filemanger.
This will improve usability, because things are easier to find.
Eventually, work on making the sidebar prettier - again, look at OS X's filemanager.
