GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 574201
gParted presents warning: Cannot mount volume, - mounts anyway
Last modified: 2009-03-23 22:52:23 UTC
Please describe the problem: gParted 0.3.8 in Debian "Lenny" I decided to resize/move three partitions on my hdd, and when I launched gparted it presented me with the warning popup "Cannot mount volume - you do not have proper permissions. I made the changes in the graphical interface, clicked "apply", and gparted began to apply the changes. for each of the three partitions to be moved/resized a warning was presented saying: Cannot mount volume - you do not have proper permissions, but upon clicking "ok" in the popups, gparted went ahead and applied the changes. This didn't seem to interfere with the normal operation of the application. It just seemed the warnings were out of place. I was signed into a new Debian "Lenny" (Gnome) install as first user. gParted was launched through its launcher, not command-line. This is a dual install Debian "Lenny"/ Ubuntu "Hardy Heron" machine. gParted was launched from the Debian OS, the changes were applied to the Ubuntu partitions. The "locked" symbol was shown on each Debian "Lenny" partition, but not the Ubuntu partions. Steps to reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: I would expect one warning if the volume cannot be mounted, gparted presented two popup warnings for each partition to be resized. Does this happen every time? The warnings appear every time I launch gparted. Other information:
Thank you for reporting this problem. I believe that either hal or the gnome-volume-manager is emitting the error message. The reason that the partitions are being mounted is that GParted version 0.3.8 did not take out the correct storage device lock to prevent automounting. This problem should be fixed with GParted version 0.4.3. Would you be able to retest this problem with GParted 0.4.3? If you do not wish to compile and install the application, you can download a Live CD version from links such as the following: GParted Live (testing branch 0.4.3-1) http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php System Rescue CD http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page
