GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 574085
gnome-display-properties saving/restoring frequent display schemes
Last modified: 2017-11-30 04:33:06 UTC
It would be nice if gnome-display-properties would support saving and restoring "Display Schemes", instead of manually having to select the right settings each time. Example, I frequently use an external DVI display attached to a docking station or a VGA attached projector. Instead of manually configuring these each time I would like to just select a saved scheme in gnome-display-properties, such as "Home Office", "Same display on Laptop and external VGA display", etc. Bonus points for being able to automatically trigger these schemes on dock/undock events, such that it can automatically when docking select the "Home Office" scheme and when undocking the "Laptop only" scheme. But perhaps some of these functions should be synchronized with others such as Network Manager to allow automatic selection of other preferences.
I just wanted to file a wish report requesting support for display profiles. This seems to be the same issue described here. Therefore I kindly ask to: - extend gnome-display-proporties to support saved configurations of outputs - allow the user to define such saved configurations - provide default profiles like: - builtin LVDS only - mirrored output to monitor+builtin - mirrored output to projector+builtin (preset to 1024x768) - external only (best resolution) - TV mode (SDTV, if TV output available) - HDTV mode (720p, ...?) - allow to modify (and reset to defaults) the provided profiles - allow to switch to the profiles in CLI (useful for scripts?) Waiting happily for comments...
It's been a while, but we finally have a redesigned panel in GNOME 3.10 (and further refined in GNOME 3.12) which should make it easier to change display configuration. Let us know what you think.
Yes, to me it works a lot better. It seems that it keeps track of the displays you have connected to, and will restore the same display settings as you had the last time you connected to it. But then my use cases these days are limited to; - Connect to desktop monitor over DVI (through a dumb port replicator) - Connect to projector over VGA - Connect to TV, using a mDP to HDMI cable This on a ThinkPad T430 (IvyBridge) with Intel graphics
