GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 574030
2.6.1 -> 2.6.5 dialog/window sort order issues
Last modified: 2009-03-04 21:30:17 UTC
problem: window positioning The workspace window is always (since 2.6.1) positioned behind the toolbox & layer windows. Images opened in GIMP from folder- view-window will be positioned behind the folder-view-window after opening in gimp. You then have to minimize the folder-window to see your workspace. Other information: this is mainly a problem in MS Windows, but the window position order issue is also present on Linux from what I have seen.
Image window behind the toolbox and other docks is intentional. The other(?) issue of it being behind other windows is a bug, but that has already been reported. Most likely bug #563346, please resolve this bug as a duplicate of the older one if it's the same thing that you're encountering.
The problem described in bug #563346 is the same. To be more descriptive of other side effects also: when an workspace image has its resolution scaled up, the workspace window re-sizes itself, and this usually ends up throwing your title-bar buttons (minimize, maximize, close) behind your always-on-top toolbox and docks. Gets to be tedious to move your workspace window back and re-size it. I also would like to note that the toolbox and other docks cannot be minimized (or are not minimized) with the workspace window. This is most likely intentional, however it results in the only way to see your desktop is to hide all windows via 'Show Desktop' button, or manually drag your toolbox and docks out of your view. This too can be quite tedious for users who multi-task often like myself
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. Not the minimizing problem, though - this has already been reported. Please skim over the existing bugs for GIMP before you file new ones. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 563346 ***
