Description Stephan Schutter 2009-03-01 16:05:11 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When you enable the option to have Banshee manage the files and folders - to keep them in sync with the metadata, and move/delete some files and folders in the music library, Banshee ends up with orphaned and double entries in the music library (metadata). So if another program (amarok, rhythm box, whatever) removes items or edits the tag info, Banshee's meta data becomes obsolete. Rescanning the library (option in the menu) should fix this, and force Banshees metadata to reflect what is on disk, and nothing else. This does not work correctly. The metadata is still out of date.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Import a large library.
2. use another program to edit tags, delete music.
3. Ensure that the db is out of sync.
4. use the rescan option.
5. observe that it does add new entries, but does not remove retaged, or moved/deleted music entries.

Actual results:
it does add new entries, but does not remove retaged, or moved/deleted music entries.

Expected results:
I would expect the "rescan" option to force the sync of the banshee metadata db and the on-disk store.

Does this happen every time?
I have not taken steps to reproduce this, only analyze the problem once i noticed it.

Other information:
Please feel free to contact me if you want further info, or want the actual DB file.
