GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 573177
Unread mail in Maildir folders is inaccessible
Last modified: 2009-04-17 15:08:04 UTC
Please describe the problem: When new mail is received in a maildir folder, the number of new mails is correctly indicated in parenthesis next to the folder name, however the new mail cannot be seen by clicking on the folder. The problem only seems to occur when new mail is received while Evolution is running. If new mail is received while Evolution is not running, it shows up correctly after Evolution is started. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Evolution 2. Wait for new mail to be received in a maildir folder 3. Try to view new mail Actual results: The folder indicates new mail is present but when you click on the folder, the new mail cannot be viewed and is not present in the list in the folder window. Expected results: Normally, when I click on the folder, the unread mail shows up in the list in the folder window and I can view each new email by clicking on it. Does this happen every time? It seems to happen if the mail is received while Evolution is running but not if the mail is already present when Evolution is started. Other information: Work around: right click on the folder that has new mail. Select "Mark messages as read". The missing mail will immediately show up in the folder list, however, it will no longer have the "unread" icon, which makes it difficult to find, depending on the sort order. If you sort with most recent mail at the top, it's easier to find them once they show up. This bug may be related to the other recent MailDir breakage described bug 571206
I just ran into this using 2.24.5. It doesn't happen often for me though.
I believe this is pretty the same issue as in your above mentioned bug #571206 thus I'm marking this as a duplicate. Let's see how will work a patch there. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 571206 ***
