GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 572108
Can't connect to Google Talk [via proxy]
Last modified: 2009-11-30 15:29:24 UTC
Please describe the problem: i tried creating a new Google Talk account. I wasn't able to connect (it showed a "Network Error"). Then i tried importing the account from Pidgin. Still facing the same problem. I had the same problem with Empathy 2.24.1 also. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create new gtalk account 2. try to connect Actual results: Empathy displays "xxxx@gmail.com Network Error". Expected results: My contacts should be displayed Does this happen every time? yes Other information: i'm behind a proxy server. But i have no problem connecting to gtalk through Pidgin
How is your proxy configured? Would you be in the same situation as bug 563203 ?
no, i'm not using AutoProxy as described in bug 563203. I've manually entered the proxy settings , ie host ip and port number in Network Proxy under System>Preferences.
Why kind of proxy are you using? HTTP? HTTP secure? FTP? SOCKS?
I have the same problem, maybe I can provide more info so this bug is fixed. I am behind a firewall as well. HTTP thru port 8080, I have tried configuring the proxy using gnome settings, but I can't still connect to gtalk. I have tried talk.google.com:5223 with old SSL, and talk.google.com:80 without old SSL. Thanks for your time
Empathy basically doesn't support any kind of proxy atm. Closing this bug as a dup of bug #602824 for now. We'll reconsider specific case once we'll have generic proxy support working. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 602824 *** *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 602824 ***
