Description Hyogapag 2009-02-11 01:07:33 UTC
Steps to reproduce:
1. Press ctrl + a
2.
3.

Stack trace:
It doesn't seem to be considered as a bug by the debug program... It's just like when I press ctrl + q. Very annoying when you want to select all the subtitles by pressing ctrl + a

Other information:
I use an azerty keybord (dunno if this can help).

Hi,

Thanks for the report. So basically Ctrl+Q still works, even with Ctrl+A performing "Close"? Also, do you see this behaviour in other Gnome applications (like gedit, for example)?
Comment 2 Hyogapag 2009-02-15 22:57:36 UTC
Whao, that's a great thing you ask me that.
1), Yes, under Gnome-subtitles both ctrl+q and ctrl+a close the app. If i modified the subs, both of them ask me if I want to save the changes.
2) Under Gedit, both ctrl+a and ctrl+q select all the text...

So it does not seem to be gnome-subtitles specific...

Did some digging, it looks like this is a known problem in Gnome, which has been fixed about 2 weeks ago. Please check bug #162726.

This appears to happen when you have French and US keyboard layouts (for example) installed at the same time, even if only one of them is enabled.
Comment 4 Hyogapag 2009-02-17 01:49:23 UTC
Yes, you're right, it seems to be the same problem. But it doesn't seem to be fully solved. What's more, it is strange that for most of the applications quoted in bug #162726 ctrl+a & ctrl+q select all the text, and that in gnome-subtitles they close the app. Maybe ctrl+a is simply not supposed to do anything in Gnome Subtitles, I dunno...

Sorry for this duplicate.
Comment 5 Pedro Castro 2009-02-17 11:11:21 UTC
No problem. Actually, Ctrl+A is supposed to do what you said at first. If you're in the subtitle list, it selects all subtitles, whereas if you're editing text, it selects all text.

I don't know the details of that Gnome Bug, but from what I've tried, Synaptic for instance behaves like GS: both Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Q close the application. But you're right, it doesn't seem to be fully fixed. I suggest that you try the fix on the next Gnome release, and please reopen this bug if the problem persists.
