I don't know if it's ubuntu-specific but directories I bookmark are not "considered" the same way when they are shown in the left panel of Nautilus or in the "Bookmarks" (between Applications and System) on the desktop.
I mean depending the icon theme I use, they are not represented with the same icon in those two places. (Usually in the Bookmark menu of the Desktop, the default folder icon of Gnome is shown). I think this is because the Nautilus left panel uses "folder.png" as an icon and the Bookmark desktop menu uses "gtk-directory" or "inode-directory".

I think those 2 features should use the same icon, and that should be trivial to resolve.
