GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 570719
evolution crashes when trying to save, make an attachment, do a backup.
Last modified: 2009-02-24 06:38:04 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. open a new email 2. click on the attach button 3. Stack trace: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
+ Trace 212283
Thread 3058140992 (LWP 10700)
Other information:
Crash appears to be coming from GTK+, but it could be due to a bad input from Evolution. Could you install debugging symbols for GTK+ and post a new stacktrace so we can get a better look?
sorry for being a noob.. but how do i do this i cannot find GTK+-dpg???
Different distros give it different names. On Fedora, the package name is gtk2-debuginfo. On Ubuntu and Debian it's libgtk2.0-0-dbg. Other distros probably use some variation of that.

Not a program, you need to install debuginfo rpms from repository as per your distro. More details can be found here: http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces
(In reply to comment #5) > Should be a dup of bug 503297 Looks like. But let's wait for a better stacktrace before closing.
i have libgtk2.0-0-dbg installed as well as bug buddy but bug buddy does not pop up after a crash. i am new to this so i appreciate the help i am getting to trace this bug but most of what i read on http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces I am not finding helpfull. running ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron. thankyou P.S. i looked at the other bug mentioned here but makes no sense to me lol..
Kurt, run evolution from console with this command: $ gdb evolution --ex r and when it crashes, enter this command into gdb: $ thread apply all bt and paste result here, together with ~three lines above the last command, where, I suppose, is written SIGSEGV. Thanks in advance.
ok here you go milan crha Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. [Switching to Thread 0xb6474740 (LWP 19140)] 0xb6b3abc7 in strchr () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (gdb) thread apply all bt
