GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 569913
It would be great to be able to send documents via email
Last modified: 2014-04-05 09:27:25 UTC
Currently, there is no feature in evince to email a document to a friend. It would be great if there was an item in the file menu, "Send To..." that allowed you to send something to somebody. The alternative procedure once a document is open is: 1. If necessary, save the document to your HD 2. Browse to the document 3. Right-click - send to. Or you could do essentially the same from within your email client. Either way though, a new feature would be great.
We could add this action to the available action probably.
Now evince has File->Open Containing Folder. This opens the Folder Containing the Document in Nautilus. So I'd say that the workflow 1. File->open containing folder. 2. right click->send to. is the intended-one.
Hate to say it, but that's still not intuitive at all. I'd wager that very few people use the send-to command from nautilus...
I also would like to request an increase in this feature request priority. I'm looking for a pdf viewer (For windows. BTW, I just had the nice surprise finding out evince is available for windows. Didn't knew that before it became a portableapp) with an ability to customize it's toolbar to include "Save as...", "print", "Send as Attachment" to deploy over my company's desktop (simple users, can't live with the "open containing folder" solution on a daily basis) but everyone lacks one of those buttons. With this feature added I can probably switch them from an old adobe reader to evince.
Just FYI, there are ongoing discussions on making such a feature available in all Gnome apps where this makes sens.
We have some customers with linux-only-pc. Adding this feature in Evince is the last step to remove definitively Acrobat Reader and Closed Source applications from this pc and also we can start to replace Abobe Reader with Evince for Windows into other customer's pc. Thank in advance.
Added Send To menu item to File menu, that allows you to send the current document by email. Thanks for reporting.
Have you added it only to File menu or we can add it to Toolbar ? Thanks for new feature.
I've just added the action to the toolbar. It's not in the default toolbar, you need to add it manually using the toolbar editor.
I agree with your choice on the default toolbar. Thank you for this addition.
It's worth adding that you have to install nautilus-sendto, otherwise the action won't appear on the toolbar: https://git.gnome.org/browse/evince/commit/?id=c9ce5786d8c0f8409249b3aff99c4262610c1e75 This feature should be mentioned in the doc!
