Description Eric Appleman 2009-01-25 17:09:21 UTC
I have noticed that Totem is disturbingly incapable of displaying ASS softsubs in an MKV container.

Why hasn't the totem team adopted the libass standard?
Comment 1 Philip Withnall 2009-01-25 17:30:21 UTC
This is almost entirely a GStreamer issue; if there's anything which needs changing in Totem, it'd be with the UI when GStreamer supports such subtitles.

Patches are welcome.
Comment 2 Philip Withnall 2009-01-25 18:35:55 UTC
Totem doesn't do any of the video decoding, subtitle decoding or subtitle rendering --- that's all handled by GStreamer (or xine). Unless I grossly misunderstand what you mean from the scant information you've provided, this bug depends on bug #569096.
