Please describe the problem:
read item and delete but reappears in inbox on next email retrieval, deleted folder will not empty.. Deleted folder was set up to empty on exit but found emails over 3 months old in there, selected empty folder by the button and reduced from 750 to 50. deleted again now have 9 but show as being unread

Please provide the EXACT error. Being vague does not help anybody to reproduce.

this is the latest version of Ubuntu 8.10 , the evolution version is 2.42.2 and fully updated ? are there other updates for evolution if so where do I get them from ? and install

2.42.2 does not exist.
It's 2.24.2.
24 is NOT 2.

Sounds like bug 213072.
