webcam not working

Please describe the problem: Webcam works in Skype and gstreamer-properties but not in cheese. This happens only on my Dell XPS M1330. With the same software: Ubuntu 8.10, all updates, it works on my Dell Inspiron 9300 with Logitech Webcam and on my Dell Mini 9 with integrated webcam with no problems. What seems to be strange is that the cheese-icon in the two functioning pc's is normal, but in the M1330 shows just a blank icon. Steps to reproduce: 1. problem is constant 2. 3. Actual results: i deinstalled and again reinstalled cheese with no results Expected results: Does this happen every time? yes Other information: i tried all possible resolutions up to 640 x 480 with no results.
Probably a known issue. You should be able to fix it installing kernel and libv4l from intrepid-proposed repository. No clue about the blank icon, but most probably a different bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 566212 ***
problem solved by installing the required intrepid-proposed updates. also the icon is normal now.
