GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 567388
Rhythmbox's icon contains too much grey
Last modified: 2010-04-06 14:21:53 UTC
The amount of grey in an icon might seem irrelevant, but since most users use grey widgets, a grey icon becomes rather hard to recognise. To find the Rhythmbox icon in the task list I usually have to look twice and in the tray I often overlook it. Would it be a possibility to make the "box" black, as this is the colour of most boxes, anyway?

Additional comments from bug 581114: Could I request a brighter graphic or bigger change to show when rhythmbox is playing since the current icon is hard to see clearly. What I would suggest is to colour the big circle in the icon the same as the blue play symbols, that white/blue contrast would make it much more obvious. I did try to do it myself after reading something about the icons being in /usr/share/rhythmbox/icons, but couldn't see anything that I could edit for the play icon. The reason I'd particularly like this is that with last.fm, there's quite often a pause before playback, and if you hit the wrong button you can completely hang some songs. I can fix that from the keyboard without opening the program, but to do that I need to know whether rhythmbox is currently playing so I know whether to hit play, stop or skip, and that's hard to see right now.
Another quick thought, after reading the other comments it sounds like people actually have different preferences for the icon. Would it be possible to have the notification are use regular graphics files for its icons? That would allow us to edit or replace those icons at will, easily solving all these problems.
Bug 614139 has some wicked new icons. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 614139 ***
