GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 566922
Album view does not respect album artist tag if same value as track artist
Last modified: 2009-01-07 19:03:48 UTC
In cases where an album contains tracks by the album artist as well as tracks by other artists, the album is listed twice in the album view; once for the album artist and again for all other artists. Both listings will appear identical apart from the tracks contained therein. This especially affects DJ sets and remix albums, as well as some soundtracks. Example: Album view will show two albums named "Fala Ai!" both attributed to Fatboy Slim, both showing same cover art. One will contain only tracks by Fatboy Slim. The other will contain only tracks not by Fatboy Slim. All albums I've seen this with are in MP3 format (which 99% of my library is). I have verified that all tracks contain correct ID3 tag entries for album artist, checking in multiple tag editing tools. I have only tested with files using ID3 version 2.3, as my portable player does not support 2.4. A temporary workaround is to highlight all tracks in the album where the album artist matches the track artist, edit the track info & check off the checkbox to enable the album artist field, then save. This will merge the two album entries for a time, but rescanning the music library reverts to showing two entries for each affected album, as nothing in the tags has actually been changed (album artist was already correct).
