The 1 pixel buffer around the notification area icons should be done away with.

Other information:
Left-clicking in the notification area gives no feedback, no indication that you're actually clicking on the app instead of on the icons inside it. None of the other panel apps (that I'm aware of) act like this, not even the window list, which has a similar setup. Obey Fitts's Law :)
