Description Federico Mena Quintero 2008-12-17 23:45:18 UTC
1. Start with two monitors.

2. Use sloppy focus mode.

3. Focus a window in one monitor, and throw the mouse to the other monitor so that the window remains focused.

4. Hit Alt-Tab.

You'll see that the Alt-Tab window appears in the monitor that contains the mouse. However, I was looking at the monitor that had the window with the keyboard input focus. Maybe the Alt-Tab window (and the "flip to another desktop" window) should appear on the monitor that has the window with the input focus, rather than the monitor with the mouse?

On thinking of this a bit more...

The Alt-Tab window and the "flip to another desktop" window should appear on the monitor that last received a mouse event or a keyboard-from-the-input-focus.

Case 1 - mouse event: You were typing with the input focus in one monitor. Then you move the mouse to the other monitor, and hit Alt-Tab - you want the selector window to be near the mouse.

Case 2 - input focus: You focus a window and throw the mouse to the other monitor. Then you type on the window for a while. Then you hit Alt-Tab - you want the selector window to be near the input focus.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/metacity/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
