Description Otto Allmendinger 2008-12-17 11:32:11 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The volume indicator produces a normal window on one screen and an artifact on the other screen.

(see screenshot link)

Steps to reproduce:
1. Use Xinerama
2. Use volume keys on keyboard

Actual results:
you see the volume indicator on the active screen (where your pointer is) and a rectangle with the desktop background on the other screen at the exact same position

Expected results:
just the volume indicator on the active screen

Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:

I don't see how that can be a gnome-settings-daemon bug. It's a normal window that we move to the right location when needed.

I couldn't determine where this window comes from. Xprop just shows information about the window below.
Comment 5 Bastien Nocera 2009-09-09 15:32:49 UTC
My guess is that this is a problem with your distribution's X server, or in the window manager, if you're using compositing.

Which window manager are you using, and is the problem still happening?
Comment 6 Otto Allmendinger 2009-09-09 16:40:43 UTC
I was using metacity without compositing when the bug occured.

Metacity *with* compositing doesn't show this bug because another volume-indicator is presented.

Now using metacity 2.26.0 i tired it *without* compositing, and the artifact doesn't appear anymore, so I think this can be closed.

Cannot be fixed if there is no idea what was the cause.
