There is only one lack in gedit - replacing in a selection:

If there is a selection then using "search --> replace" is limited to the cursor selection.
If there is no selection replacing works in the whole file - as it does currently everytime.

I think a lot of programmers using gnome-desktop are missing it... so it would be a great benefit if you would implement it!
