GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 563836
Resume from Hibernate/suspend does not respect auto-login
Last modified: 2011-03-06 07:00:17 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have set up the automatic login feature of Gnome (2.22.3). I also have turned off the Password screensaver. However when I resume from Hibernate or Suspend, I get prompted for my password. This is the only time when I am required to enter it. I shouldn't be prompted ever. (unless I'm envoking sudo) Steps to reproduce: 1. Configure Auto Login of a user 2. Configure no password for screensaver (do not lock) 3. Hibernate or suspend the computer Actual results: On resume you get prompted for password Expected results: On resume you should not get prompted for password Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:

Have you tried using either: * Remove password for the user * Set gconf key /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_lock_screen=true
(In reply to comment #3) > * Remove password for the user I tried to remove the password for the user, which isn't possible. (The user is a sudoer, so that is not optimal for me) > * Set gconf key /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_lock_screen=true I do not know how to set that key. I will be glad to try it though.
I have set gconf key /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_lock_screen=true, BUT! that now doesn't allow me to hibernate, and instead prompts me for a password! Quite the opposite effect of what would be expected.
This has been confirmed by two people running 2.30.0: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/666746 One of the users set the gconf key: /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_lock_screen=true and it was fixed, could this be worked into gnome-screensaver?
The screen lock just does what it is told to do. If you want this behavior you need to make the other tools work with it. There isn't anything we can do here.
