GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 563703
Use multiple PAM stacks (fingerprint support)
Last modified: 2014-08-19 21:00:24 UTC
We (Timo and myself) wrote a patch for finger print auth in gnome-screensaver using libfprint. I plan to change this patch to use the fprintd D-Bus service, but Bastien told me to include the old patch for comments

Note that as Matthias mentioned, not using PAM for authentication is a security risk (already logged in users would be able to log in even though their accounts were disabled, and all that sort of thing).
Renaming the bug to match how we'd like to see this implemented.

gnome-screensaver is obsolete, and this particular bug has been fixed in gnome-shell itself, with the PAM authentication being done in gdm (which supports multi-stack).
