GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 563297
No video bitrate
Last modified: 2011-04-06 02:03:34 UTC
A lot of movies don't seem to have even nominal video bitrates.
Bastien, I fail to see the relevence of this bug. Is it *really* important to be able to show the nominal video bitrate for all files ? Will that stop the users from watching the video ? Will they riot if they don't see it ? Maybe the best would be to *not* show the bitrates lines by default in the 'Properties' sidebar unless there actually is a bitrate information. Seeing "Bitrate:N/A" is indeed confusing, whereas not seeing it would be fine for most people.
Well, it's useful for completeness' sake. I don't see why one wouldn't want all the metadata available for all the files. And if it's not important, why is it exported? Would you prefer me filing separate bugs for this information being missing for different video types?

Everytime I need to know the video bitrate I have to use VLC. Very annoying, since I do lots of encode/recode work with video files.
This is done for formats that support exporting video bitrates. MKV, and AVI can't for example. Use better container formats.
