Description Alexander Shopov 2008-12-03 08:01:55 UTC
Please describe the problem:
SpamAssasin does not mark messages as spam, even though they are. The process of spam checking is slow and gives back errors.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Get fedora 10, upgrade to maximum
2. Exact versions of packages:

evolution-data-server-2.24.1-2.fc10.i386
evolution-rspam-0.0.6-4.fc10.i386
evolution-2.24.1-2.fc10.i386
evolution-webcal-2.23.91-1.fc10.i386
evolution-perl-2.24.1-2.fc10.i386
evolution-help-2.24.1-2.fc10.i386
evolution-spamassassin-2.24.1-2.fc10.i386
spamassassin-3.2.5-2.fc10.i386
evolution-spamassassin-2.24.1-2.fc10.i386

Configure Evolution to use spamassasin plugin:
Edit -> Plugins -> SpamAssasin junk plugn enabled
Edit -> Preferences -> Mail Preferences -> Junk
Selected are:
Check incoming messages for junk
Check custom header for junk
Default junk plugin: SpamAssasin
SpamAssasin plugin is availabkle and the binary is installed

Then try to get your mail. THe status bar will start spitting notices "Check Junk Failed", when you click on the notice you get a dialog: Check Junk Failed,
Pipe to SpamAssasin Failed, error code: 1

1.
2.
3.

Actual results:
Nothing is marked as spam. Still downlolading mail is very slow.

Expected results:
Messages should be marked as spam and moved to the spam folder. Especially after the training was done with more than 1000 messages.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
This bug is obviously not unique to Fedora. A quick search gave the same complaints elsewhere:

Did you teach SpamAssassin spam and ham already?
Comment 4 Alexander Shopov 2008-12-03 13:11:21 UTC
What I have been doing is marking every day about 100 messages as spam (since the date of installing F10 which is the date after official release).
I did that by selecting the messages in Evolution and then hitting the button for Spam. Evolution dutifully marked them as spam and moved them to the Spam foldr.

How can I check if I have actually trained SpamAssasin anything?
