Description h3 2008-11-28 18:47:49 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The panel stops responding, but is still "working".

The panel becomes static like an image, for example the button aren't highlighted on mouse hover anymore and active window aren't highlighted neither, it's completely frozen.

Yet the window buttons will still raise or minimize the windows if clicked.. but never the right windows.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new panel and add "window list", drag it on the top of the secondary display
2. Then drag it back to the bottom of the primary monitor, if it hasn't froze yet:
3. Drag it back to the top of the secondary monitor, it will freeze every time.

Actual results:
The panel freeze, becomes unusable.

Expected results:
Expectations are the root of deception.

Does this happen every time?
Yup.

Other information:
I noticed this bug in Ubuntu Hardy Heron and Intrepid Ibex (32bit) with Compiz enabled.

I found a quick workaround: when the panel is frozen on the top of my secondary monitor I drag it to the left or right edge of the screen and then put it back to the top, it "unfreeze" it.

Kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic and 2.6.27-7-generic (32bit)
cpu: AMD64 4800
ram: 4G
gc: nVidia Quadro FX 1400 and nVidia GeForce 9600GT
dual monitor setup: gxl, xinerama & twinview & compiz

I have a identical problem.
My config:

Ubuntu 8.10
Xinerama on 2 screens with a nvidia Geforce 6600 and proprietary driver v177

Step to reproduce:

- Open a windows
- move it on the second screen
- using right-clic on the deskbar, choose "move" to move the window
- move it back to the first screen
- the windows doesn't appear on the first screen and now your pointer is useless. You can move it but you can't click or move anything.

This bug appear to me after updating from 8.04 to 8.10.

In additon I also noticed this bug happens also when taking control of the computer with VNC :

Ubuntu 8.10
Xinerama on 2 screens with a nvidia Geforce 6600 and proprietary driver v177 Or v173

Step to reproduce:

- connect to the computer with VNC (personnaly I use thight VNC on my office computer via a ssh tunnel)
- move a window trough vnc
- now if you try to use the mouse locally, you can only move the cursor, no clik, no right-clic, only the keyboard is usable until you restart X.
