Description Christian Taedcke 2008-11-23 19:44:30 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I used vorbisgain to add additional volume information to my ogg files. When playing these files sometimes it takes up to one second, until the correct volume is applied. For this second the music is very loud when the replaygain modifier is eg 0.3.

Steps to reproduce:
1. use vorbisgain on ogg files
2. play these file in a playlist (in my case several albums)

Actual results:
Sometimes a too loud start of the song.

Expected results:
The volume should be set immediately when the song starts.

Does this happen every time?
No.

Other information:
If you give me some advice, i could debug it.

This may be related to this gstreamer Bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513857

A workaround would be nice here.

A better case to reproduce:
1. Play "silence" with a high replaygain, so that the volume is set to 15.0
2. Let a normal song follow directly in your playlist, eg replaygain 0.3

This happens everytime for me.

I can confirm this bug, but for FLAC files rather than OGG files. Replaygain tags are added by metaflac. I have also come across where it starts soft then suddenly becomes louder, when playing a soft song after a loud one.

Marking as a dupe of bug 513857. I don't think working around GStreamer bugs is such a good idea.
