GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 561965
Orca does not provide access to newly-opened dialogs in Firefox and Thunderbird
Last modified: 2009-05-02 02:33:01 UTC
This is a tracking bug for the following Mozilla bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466332 Beginning with the 11 October build of FF3.1, window:activate events are missing when the Preferences dialog first appears. As a result, we no longer provide access to this dialog. Note that we do seem to get the event if one Alt+Tab's out of and back into the Preferences dialog. Therefore, that's the workaround until the Mozilla guys fix this regression.
Seems this bug is also present for Thunderbird.

I am using Firefox 3.2a1pre and Thunderbird/Shredder 3.0b3pre and I now have speech support when dialogs open in both of these programs. however, I'm still getting an "unfocused window notification from orca before the focused object in the dialog is spoken. Just FYI.
Sorry, should have given you specifics on system: Ubuntu Intrepid, fully updated and upgraded Orca from svn trunk, revision 4621 gnome 2.24.1

I've asked on the bug, and I think we can happily close this bug as NOTGNOME if the fixed FF addresses the subject of this bug. Since Joanie did the legwork, it's hers to close. :-)
The answer is: Firefox 3.5.
(In reply to comment #6) > The answer is: Firefox 3.5. > Confirmed with Firefox 3.5b4 (contrib build for OpenSolaris). Seems to also be fixed in 3.1b3 (OpenSolaris dev build 111a). Yea! Closing as NOTGNOME. Thanks Will.
